It’s been difficult with COVID-19 restrictions, but SMC’s Cardiac Rehab is open, operating, and encouraging patients to get heart healthy.
The Cardiac Rehab team of Sharon Kadany, RN, BSN, Margot Desparrois, RN, BSN, and Catherine Buckingham, LPN, led by John Roselli, RRT, Director, Cardiopulmonary and Neurodiagnostic Service, and cardiologist Manish Dadhania, MD, make it their goal to provide a pleasant atmosphere for their patients.
Combined, Kadany, Desparrois, and Buckingham have more than 60 years of experience in cardiac rehab and more than 100 in nursing.
“Most patients come to cardiac rehab after a heart attack or heart operation,” said Kadany. “Most insurances pay for 24 to 36 visits, but if a patient wants to continue, they can join the Maintenance Program and pay monthly, similar to an outside gym, but with medical benefits.”
Patients who use the service have the benefit of being monitored by nurses for heart rate, breathing, and overall physical reaction to the exercises during their session.
“We enjoy helping our patients get stronger and healthier while having fun,” said Kadany. “It makes us feel good to know they’re feeling better.”
