National Doctor’s Day is an annual observance aimed at appreciating physicians who help save lives everywhere.
“I’m very proud of all of our doctors,” said Dr. Wamiq Sultan, Chief Medical Officer. “They all provide tremendous value to our community on a daily basis.”
The holiday originated on March 28, 1933, in Winder, GA, when Eudora Brown Almond, a doctor’s wife, mailed cards to all the local physicians and their wives, and put red carnations on deceased doctor’s graves. Almond and a few other doctors’ wives organized a celebratory luncheon so their husbands’ work in healthcare could be publicly appreciated.
President George Bush declared March 30 as National Doctor’s Day in 1991, and the day has been nationally celebrated every year since.
SMC wishes to thank each and every physician who practices at the hospital and the SMC Health Physicians practices for their dedication and compassion.
Happy National Doctor’s Day!
