For the past 44 years, medical laboratory professionals across the country have celebrated the crucial services they provide to healthcare. This year SMC’s lab staff did just that.
“We’ve had ‘Lunch and Learns’ every day, and the team received special T-shirts,” said SMC Laboratory Director Jane Oates. The T-shirt reads, “I’m part of the medical lab team. Therefore, I get great results, make a difference, strive for excellence, exceed expectations every day, I’m key to healthcare, and always up to the test.”
The lab is a critical part of hospital operations, but perhaps has been more so during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Our lab processes COVID-19 specimens to prepare and send to our reference lab,” Oates said. “Our lab gets results the following day. I compile data, notify our nursing directors and physicians of the results, and report to the NJ Department of Health and South Jersey Command Center.”
