SMC Environmental Services staff member James Perrone recently encountered a patient who was in a room with a broken air conditioner.
“It was during the fall when we had those few really hot days — when the weather was all over the place,” Perrone said.
He was called to the third floor where the patient was uncomfortably hot and upset.
“I talked to her and calmed her down some, then told her I would find her a fan,” he said.
And he did.
Going above and beyond to find a fan made the patient’s stay much more comfortable.
“She was going to be here another two days or so,” Perrone said. “I went and checked on her the next day.”
Perrone, who has been at SMC for five years, made a difference for that patient.
“When it comes to the patients, James and my entire staff care 100 percent about the patients’ needs,” said Matt Williams, Manager, Environmental Services. “When no one else can, my staff will find a way.”
