Between them, February’s Salem Oak Ancillary Excellence Award winners have 63-plus years service in SMC’s Laboratory.
Interim Laboratory Director Denise Dewitt, Lead Technologist, and Administrative Assistant Karen Engel were both recognized for their highly valued qualities and attributes.
In her nomination, Dewitt was praised for being a role model who demonstrates the ability to make a difference.
Dewitt is known to step up whenever needed and leads her team without being asked.
“Denise takes 100-percent ownership of the entire department when she is needed,” said Patricia Palmieri, Associate Vice President of Operations, Lab, Radiology and Pharmacy.
Engel was described as a hard worker in her nomination, as well as “one of the nicest people anyone has met” who “always has a smile on her face.”
The nomination also read, “Karen is always pleasant. What an asset to the laboratory and Salem Medical Center. We are truly lucky that she is on our team.”
The Salem Oak Ancillary Excellence Award was created to honor and recognize employees for outstanding efforts made in delivering ever improving value to the patients and co-workers, and improving overall organizational performance.
