As AVP of Clinical Operations, Justine Murphy, BSHA, RN, oversees several key areas of nursing including the Mentorship Program, Certified Nursing Assistants and Nursing Administrative Supervisors, in addition to Perioperative Services.
Murphy was named Director of Perioperative Services in 2017. She is passionate about the Patient Experience and shares this passion during orientation, by giving the newly hired staff a toolkit on how to treat patients with compassion and empathy, providing patients with an excellent experience.
“Murph is an instrumental part of SMC,” said Chief Nursing Officer Ekene Ejimofor. “Her experience in both the nursing and managerial fields make her a well-rounded and balanced addition to nursing administration.”
Before coming to SMC, Murphy worked as Director of Perioperative Services at Brandywine Hospital for six years and was Clinical Director of Perioperative Services at Pennsylvania Hospital – Penn Medicine in Philadelphia, PA, for three years prior.
Murphy began her career as a Labor and Delivery nurse at Philadelphia General Hospital School of Nursing — the oldest nursing school in the USA.
She then worked at Graduate Hospital for 21 years where she began as a staff nurse and later became Director of SICU/CTICU for nine years. Later, she served as Nursing Supervisor for six years and Director of Endoscopy and Pre-op for six years.
Murphy also worked as a staff nurse in the Cath Lab, was Director of CTICU Main Line Health, The Lankenau Hospital in Wynnewood, PA, Director of Critical Care/Burn Center/Respiratory at Saint Agnes Medical Center in Philadelphia, PA, and Chief Nursing Officer/Clinical Administrator at Kindred Hospital, Delaware County, Darby, PA.
“I try never to forget what it’s like to be a nurse working in a unit caring for patients,” Murphy said. “I love the patients and am always true to what I know is best for the patients and the nurses. I’m very excited for this opportunity.”
