Dear Tammy Torres,
I would like to take the time to thank each and every employee I had contact with from Dec. 3 to Dec. 21, 2019, at Salem Medical Center.
My ex-husband, Francis “Speedy” Hogate, was taken to your Emergency Department on Dec. 3. He was having difficulties breathing and his stomach was full of fluid. From the minute he was taken into the ED, I felt comfort in knowing such caring people were there for him. He was put on a ventilator, which the doctor explained was to give him a chance to restore his breathing calmly and to give the staff more time to evaluate him.
I can not say enough about the ICU nurses, doctors, and entire ICU staff. We were quite upset, and they answered all questions, numerous times, and calmed us down. They never made any of us feel like we were a bother.
After a few days in ICU, Speedy was moved to a regular room. Again, the care he received from everyone was great. From food services, to cleaning personnel, PT staff, nurses, doctors, and aides, we felt he received the utmost care.
From the day he was released to Southgate, until his passing on Dec. 21, he was again at Salem Medical Center for a couple of days. He, himself, said he felt well cared for and safe in your hospital.
On Dec. 21, he was taken back to your ED and it is with a heavy heart I must say he passed away.
Even at that terribly sad time, I must give nothing but praise to the entire staff who we came in contact with at that trying time. They tried their best to revive him, but to no avail.
We were comforted, respected, and understood by all on that amazing team.
I can’t say enough about the compassion we received, and the time allowed with Speedy. We never felt rushed to leave the room or the hospital. The tray that was put outside the room with drinks and snacks was a comfort in itself. The kind words from all, and even some tears from them, will never be forgotten.
Again, from the receptionist at the front desk, to security, and all the rest of your amazing staff that we came into contact with, I can’t say a big enough Thank You for the care of Speedy and the kindness that was shown to our family.
I have always been and will continue to be a firm believer in our local hospital, Salem Medical Center.
