Critical Care Medicine

The medical professionals at Salem Medical Center  provide 24-hour monitoring and acute care for critically ill patients in our Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Patients have access to specialists in a range of disciplines who utilize advanced equipment and technology to provide quality care.

Nursing personnel assigned to our unit are not only trained in critical care but are also trained in the function and operation of our equipment. And through continued education, they stay abreast of developing trends and technology. Our ICU staff members also work closely with other departments such as radiology and oncology to provide patient care during special procedures that may occur outside the ICU.

We understand that having a family member or loved one in the ICU can be difficult – that’s why our critical care team members are dedicated to keeping you informed and answering your questions.

Please note that admission to the ICU is made on the recommendation of the patient’s attending physician. As soon as the patient’s condition permits, he or she will be transferred to a unit of the hospital designated for general care.
