SMC Radiology Department was recently recognized for their hard work and dedication by achieving accreditations from the American College of Radiology in MRI and Mammography.
“Achieving accreditation tells the public that we have met certain high-quality standards,” said Director of Radiology Calvin Ferrier, MS, BS, RTR, MR, Dip. Ed.
The MRI team — Technologists Heather Storto and Jacqueline Hall — passed MRI modules for Head, Spine, Body, Musculoskeletal and Vascular scans.
Lead Mammographer Amy Robinson spent several weeks producing the required images on both the 2D and 3D mammography systems to achieve accreditation.
“I know how tough getting accredited can be,” said Ferrier. “But I knew how hard they had worked. When I saw ‘approved’ I nearly flipped! They deserve that win.”
The ACR gold seal of accreditation represents the highest level of image quality and patient safety, and is only awarded to facilities meeting ACR Practice Parameters and Technical Standards after a peer-review evaluation by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field.
“These accreditations show that radiology has undergone a rigorous inspection to ensure that we are providing quality services, highly-qualified personnel, and quality images,” said Dr. Tammy Torres, CEO.
The MRI and Mammography accreditations are good for three years.
