SMC is proud to announce recent accreditations for Laboratory and Mammography.
The Laboratory received Comprehensive Accreditation for all aspects of the lab from The Joint Commission. This encompasses services including microbiology, chemistry, hematology, blood bank, and anatomical pathology.
“A successful Lab accreditation assures that we meet, or exceed, the rigorous performance standards required to assure accurate test results,” said Laboratory Director Jane Oates, MT.
The accreditation is valid through 2022.
“Salem Medical Center was very excited to have a 3D mammography unit recently installed in our dedicated Women’s Center,” said Radiology Manager Kim Cassidy. “It provides our patients with the highest quality of breast imaging. Our new unit required accreditation by the American College of Radiology. Accreditation by ACR establishes that our center has undergone a rigorous inspection to ensure that we are providing quality services, highly-qualified personnel, and quality images by skilled mammographers on physicist-tested equipment.”
Lead Mammographer Amy Robinson spent several weeks collecting pertinent quality control tests and obtaining the required images. These images were critiqued by our Lead Interpreting Physician, Dr. David S. Udis, and ultimately submitted to the ACR for review.
Mammography was granted ACR accreditation for three years.
