Ceil Smith has served as Executive Director of the Salem Community College Foundation since January 2015. She assumed this key role after 14 years as a Foundation member, chair and vice chair. As the founder of the Partners of Salem County, Ms. Smith was instrumental in creating the Salem Community College Gala (The Glass Ball), and the Salem County Vocational Technical Schools’ Lifetime Leadership Award. Together, the events have raised over $1 million for scholarships since 2002.
During her 30-year career in the newspaper industry, she served as advertising manager, general manager, and publisher of Salem County’s daily newspaper, Today’s Sunbeam.
In addition to the SCC Foundation, Ms. Smith’s leadership has benefitted many organizations including Salem County Vocational and Technical Schools, Salem Medical Center, United Way, Salem County Chamber of Commerce, Meals on Wheels, Delaware River and Bay Authority, Stand Up for Salem, and Salem Sunrise Rotary.
She has been recognized many times for her community service and career accomplishments: Salem County Distinguished Citizen of the Year (2001), Salem Community College Service Award (2004), Calvary Community Development Corporation Service Award (2005), Salem County Commission on Women Achievement Award (2007), St. Hubert’s High School Hall of Fame (2007), Salem Community College Foundation Medallion Award (2010), Friend of Education Award from Salem County Education Association (2011), Pederson Campbell Award from Stand Up for Salem (2012), and Crystal Rose Award for lifetime achievement (2017).
