Dear Dr. Tammy Torres,
On February 28, my 92-year-old father, Malcom Jones, was brought to the Salem Medical Center’s Emergency Department because he was suffering from severe abdominal pain.
My dad has dementia, so he was confused as to why he was there, even where he was, and was sometimes combative and uncooperative. However, one of his nurses was an ex-Marine so the two bonded — a Marine caring for a Marine.
The doctors kept him under observation, hoping to avoid surgery to remove the scar tissue due to his age, but on March 3, Dr. Daniel Timmerman, general surgeon, decided he needed to go in and remove the blockage to avoid further pain and damage.
The surgery worked like a miracle! After the procedure, Dad was laughing and singing!
We are so fortunate to have a great care facility close by.
The staff was terrific during his entire stay – kind, knowledgeable, efficient and caring. From the doctors, nurses, CNAs and security guards, he received great care and I am very grateful. Along with Dr. Timmerman, the following folks—plus so many more—were wonderful during his two-week stay:
Jill Sutton-Parris
Gwen Drew
Karen Ferguson
John Gill
Christina Hassler
Dr. Henry Ho
Justine Murphy
Dr. Wamiq Sultan
Thank you to everyone at SMC. Your care and concern are much appreciated.
